About

We exist to train and support you to establish pre-designed and highly impactful community run businesses.

About us

Our growing portfolio of three social franchises are designed with and for communities living on less than $3 per day. Once piloted, we package the models and all the learnings into a "business in a box" and support you to unpack and assemble the businesses in communities you work with. We aim to help you create sustainable and independent communities that can address their own local issues. Together we can create long-term fulfilling jobs that power local economies and solve some of the world's most fundamental social issues. Our global network connects and shares learnings between otherwise isolated communities, social organisations, corporates, the public sector and amazing individuals. Each one committed to using their skills to achieve intergenerational social impact. We create significant impact through our core values:

  • Social businessputting community and value creation at the centre of what we do
  • Collaborationconnecting communities, NGOs, cooperates, students, public bodies and individuals to create the best possible solutions
  • Innovation – encouraging the businesses in WSV and our partners to think outside the box

Sustainable Development Goals

We are committed to tackling the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and build this into all of the enterprises in our portfolio. We are also supporters of Merit 360; the most significant program for global citizens committed to tackling the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. Please watch this video and let us not stop half way!

Our Portfolio

Our growing portfolio is made up of three transformative social franchises

Right Light

Right Light micro-enterprises rent solar lamps to their local communities.

Roots

Roots micro-enterprises build toilets that convert waste into fertiliser.

Petal

Training local women to produce reusable sanitary towels and educate their communities.

Our model

Our model is a simple one; take an innovative solution, build a sustainable framework around it and support organisations to replicate the impact. We aim to both maximise impact and empowerment, and create scalable and long-term sustainable business. All of our work is driven by partnerships.

How it works

The most important aspect of setting up a successful micro-enterprise is a strong relationship and understanding of a community. This is why the WSV portfolio operates on a social franchise through independent and self -sustaining organisations that already have these relationships. This focus on partnerships is what drives the success of the enterprises in the WSV network.

Trying to fund community driven impact?

Our social franchises create impact that self-replicates and is independent of donor generosity.

Partners and Support

Our social franchise network includes and is supported by a whole range of people and organisations

Who else are we working with?

We want to build a network of organisations and individuals working together and supporting social business. Be this directly supporting the social franchise brands themselves, our social sector partners or supporting the entrepreneurs and their communities. It doesn't matter what your organisation does by trade, your values and actions will describe the social good in what you do. Two of our most important partners are the University of Southampton and Enactus Southampton, see below for why.

Enactus Southampton

The origin of WSV

Enactus Southampton

WSV originated from the University of Southampton Enactus team where our founders realised the potential for the projects that were being created to change lives on a global scale. This relationship is one of the most integral parts of our model and social mission. It allows us to support the amazing work that the students are doing in Enactus nationally, whilst also giving the projects they develop an opportunity to scale into the world through the WSV social franchise model.
